BRITISH SECTION.
Construction.
We have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter
E.261/2 of September 22nd enclosing a copy of a letter from
the Colonial Office dated September 19th and also copies
of a confidential despatch from B.E. the Governor of Hong
Kong dated August 7th with other enclosures, for which we are
much obliged.
We note that the Secretary of State for the Colonies
has sanctioned Mr. A.J. Barry's inspection of the above
railway on our behalf, as proposed in our letters of August
21st and September 2nd, and we will therefore endeavour to
make the necessary arrangements with him. We also note
that Lord Crewe desires that Mr. Barry should report direct
to us and that we should submit our report to his Lordship.
We will therefore see that this procedure is carried out.
